Unfortunately due to the laws of physics, preserving the exact tone of a true single coil and getting noiseless operation is absolutely impossible - but here's the next best thing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003eScatterwound by hand and utilising a loose winding pattern, the capacitance of this coil is kept to a minimum to retain the single coil characteristics as much as possible. When hooked up in either series or parallel (the correct way around) with your pickups it will remove about 90% of the hum. Because of this dummy coil using very similar dimensions and wire to standard pickups, this is pretty much as good as true single humcancelling gets.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003eThis model is wound to 6.4k Ohms, meaning it will match well with vintage to medium output Strat singles, vintage output Tele singles and vintage output p90s. For humcancelling in all positions you'll want all your pickups to be wired up with the winds in the same direction.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003eThe Silencer can be connected in series, where it will shave off a little bit of the high end, or parallel where it will add high end. A capacitor may be placed in series when in series operation to restore treble. This flat, clinical articulation lends itself beautifully to monstrous distortion and colossal riffs.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen people say that it's impossible to get the feel and tone of an active pickup in a passive pickup, they're not entirely wrong. It's impossible to get the combination of feel, tone and output of an active pickup in a passive. These are a little bit tamer in output than your standard actives. They're still hot by passive standards, but they won't slam the front end of your preamp quite as hard. These pickups were wound with a special wire which had a thicker than normal insulation wire (with the 'heavy' in the wire name, heavy formvar, referring to a heavy insulation build). This increased thickness of insulation (and therefore space between the parallel winds of the coil) results in a more bright and cutting tone.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese pickups use the very expensive heavy formvar wire that makes the Strat pickups of the 50s sound so different from modern budget pickups that almost exclusively use a thinner build of poly wire. These winds are wound directly around a set of alnico 5 rod pole pieces. We've deviated from vintage accuracy to make them sound more vintage accurate. Back in the 50s, it was common for players to use wound G strings, nowadays it's almost unheard of. The wound G is a lot quieter than the plain G, therefore the stagger was originally made with the G pole being close to the string to increase the volume. This is due to the significant construction differences. The coils of the Wide Range humbucker are much larger than those of a Gibson humbucker. This means more turns of wire, more output, and a larger string sensing window (more harmonic content). They're wound with the same gauge of wire, so we can do a direct comparison when comparing the two - Wide Range humbuckers have a wind count around 30% higher than a standard Gibson humbucker. \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe method of magnetising the strings is also significantly different.
